DAY 54 - MYRTLE BEACH

What a beautiful place Myrtle Beach is!  Very touristy - reminds me of Florida.   The guys got up early this morning to golf a different golf course and had fun.  We girls decided to go to a large mall....however had a bit of difficult finding it though due to wrong directions given from the Briarcliffe Office - however thanks to asking several people along the way we eventually found it!   We all needed our hair done and can you believe it - walked into J.C. Penny's and all got appointments!   A short visit to Steinmart on the way home completed our day and tonight we are just going to 'hang out'.   Tomorrow is a sleep-in day - and then perhaps go to view the Beach itself.   Lovely and relaxing here.

DAY 53 - FAYETTEVILLE N.C. - MYRTLE BEACH S.C.

Bob was the leader today and it was a relatively short trip arriving at Briarcliffe RV Resort before noon.  The guys had booked a game of golf at Myrtle Beach and there were Outlet Shops relatively close to the RV park - so everyone was happy!   Briarcliffe RV Resort is very nice - quite upscale so we just may stay here an extra day!!   Us girls had a great time this afternoon shopping and then went grocery shopping at Wallmart.   It was a great Wallmart - with lots of groceries!     Made Spaghetti for dinner - Bob has to buy a fitting for the drainage of the 'black water' so he and Gil left to see if they could find one.   The result - the repair man is going to come tomorrow!

DAY 52 - WILLIAMSBURG VA - FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

Another scenic drive....I think Virginia may be my favorite State so far - although all have been beautiful in their own way.   I know I talk a lot about the trees - but I am so impressed with the denseness of the beautiful trees - all different shapes and colors....God certainly made a beautiful world.   Don led the way this morning and we had our coffee break at McDonalds again (this is becoming quite a nice habit!).   Passed into North Carolina shortly afterwards and was so pleased to at last be able to capture a picture of the sign successfully!    Arrived at Lazy Acres Campground around 3 p.m.   We plan to get together for dessert at Jan's tonight and play Jokers as haven't done that for a while.    Bob is excited to go to Myrtle Beach tomorrow and has already booked a golf game for the afternoon.  Fortunately there is shopping close by!!

DAY 51 - GREENWOOD VA - WILLIAMSBURG VA.

Today we travelled 135 miles to Williamsburg and another scenic drive it was.   Stopped at McDonalds for breakfast as all of us seemed unusually hungry even though it was only 10:00 a.m.   On arrival at Williamsburg we visited the Shirley Plantation which is the oldest Plantation in Virginia.   Very interesting to be guided through the Mansion by a very bright and knowledgeable 83 year old lady.   This Plantation has been passed on to 14 generations so far - and the oldest son (not married at 46) resides on the 2nd floor.   We toured the Main floor and saw everything as it used to be.    153 slaves were on this plantation in 1862  - hard to imagine.    One of the other sons drove us in his Pick-up truck to and from our RV's which we had to park a little ways away from the Plantation.   Staying tonight at Anvil Campground and had a lovely meal at the 'Red Lobster' again....reason being....all us girls had laundry to do and the men felt sorry for us!!

DAY 50 - WASHINGTON - GREENWOOD, VIRGINIA

Left Washington at around 8:00 a.m. after our normal time of prayer.  We are so grateful for God's hand upon all of our Rigs - it's been amazing.    Bob was the leader today and what a pretty drive we experienced.   After about 45 minutes we stopped at the Virginia Welcome Building and there received lots of interesting material about Virginia - plus they offered to take our photo under the 'welcome' sign.   Very friendly people.   Virginia is beautiful - I thought the scenery couldn't get any better but this was gorgeous - trees...trees...trees and so clean and fresh.   When we arrived at the entrance to Shenandoah Park we were told that we should take a different route after a certain point - as the overpass clearance would be too low for our Rigs!   We stopped at a lovely rest area at the top for lunch and as you can see took some pictures.    Ended up arriving at Misty Mountain RV Park around 3:15 p.m.   Surprised to see that a Music Festival was being held on the grounds (NOT Gospel!!) but were assured that it would end around 9 p.m.    Bob is going to barbeque Hamburgers for supper!

DAY 49 - WASHINGTON D.C.

Well no pictures or story today!   I woke up with a bad cold - Bob's knee was bothering him - so we both unfortunately couldn't join the others on another trip into Washington.   I was disappointed as was looking forward to seeing more of the highlights but was thankful that we got to see so much yesterday.    Bob is enjoying watching the Lions play tonight on his Satelite TV and I am having an early night!

Left early this morning - first on the Metro Bus that came right to our RV Park and then 2 Sub-ways into Washington.  As you probably have gathered we don't drive our Rigs right in the heart of the City - I don't think that would be very smart!!   Everything was very clean and no food stands on the street corners - also not a lot of restaurants where we got off the sub-way so needless to say we ended up asking if we could use the washroom at the Court of Appeal (2nd highest court in America)!!    We had to go through security - just to go to the washroom!!  They were very friendly there.   Did quite a bit of walking - saw the White House, The Treasury Board (the same picture that's on the American $10 bill) the Pool of Reflecting, Korean War Memorial, 2nd World War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam War Memorial.    It was a pretty walk down to view these places near the White House and we came across many runners - who we thought might be White House staff exercising.

Then we moved on to the Holocaust Museum - and my oh my what an interesting and sombreing place.   When we left and realized we had been there 4 hours it seemed impossible as the time went by so fast.    To hear stories from survivors and what they went through was just hard to describe.  An incredible place.
